Xiaomi recently came out with yet another device for the Redmi series smartphones. The device bears the branding Redmi Note 7S. However, this raises some doubts over the existing smartphone Redmi Note 7. Well how, let us see.
The Redmi Note 7S has almost the same specifications as the already existing Redmi Note 7. Moreover, it turns out that both the devices even have a similar price tag. The Redmi Note 7 has a pricing of Rs 9,999. Whereas, the recently released Redmi Note 7S is available at a price of Rs 10,999. These are the prices for the base variant of the devices.
Although, not officially announced, one of the Xiaomi Executive revealed that the company may soon end the sale of Redmi Note 7. Anuj Sharma, the Marketing Head at Xiaomi India has indicated that the company has planned to have a limited sale of the Note 7 in India.
We here look at the detailed specifications of the new Redmi Note 7S.
Firstly, starting off with the physical design of the Note 7S. It comes with a 6.3-inch (16 cm) FHD+ Dot Notch Display with an Aspect Ratio of 19:9. The screen resolution of the device is 720 x 1520 pixels along with a Pixel Density of 269 ppi. It comes with an IPS LCD display at the front and Xiaomi’s Aura design at the rear.
In addition, the screen comes with a Gorilla Glass 5 protection along with a P2i nano-coating on top of it, which is hydrophobic. There is no IP rating that Xiaomi provides with the device, but it claims that the device is Splash proof. The device would be available in 3 color variants, which are the Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue and Onyx Black.
Hardware and Software
On the hardware front, the Redmi Note 7S is built on a 64 bit Architecture. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and accelerated by the Adreno 512 GPU. It runs on Octa core processor with 8 Kryo 260 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. Meanwhile, the device runs on Android v9.0 Pie with MIUI skin on top out of the box.
The key difference between the Note 7 and the Note 7S comes in terms of their rear camera setup. The Redmi Note 7S definitely takes the upper hand here. It features a 48MP primary sensor along with a 5MP depth sensor at the rear. Whereas, the Note 7 has a 12MP + 2MP dual rear camera setup. The front cameras of both the phones have a 13MP selfie shooter.
Battery and Charging
The Redmi Note 7S packs in a massive 4,000 mAh Li-Polymer battery to keep the device powered up. In addition, it comes with a support for Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0 via a USB type-C port.
Other features include a Fingerprint Sensor at the rear, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an IR Blaster which comes in handy. It supports dual SIM with dual VoLTE. Besides you can also choose to expand the storage via a hybrid micro-SD card upto 256GB.
Pricing and Availability
Finally, talking about the pricing and availability of the device. The new Redmi Note 7S is currently available in two variants. The 3GB + 32GB variant is available at Rs 10,999. And, the 4GB + 64 GB variant is available at Rs 12,999. The device is up for a grab through flash sales on Flipkart and mi.com.
With, almost similar specifications, buyers wouldn’t mind shedding out an extra 1,000 INR, if they are getting a much better camera hardware with the Note 7S. Well, Xiaomi knows it. And, it seems obvious that the company is looking for some higher profits by phasing out the older Redmi Note 7.
