In-display Cameras in Smartphones become a reality

After pop-up cameras and punch hole cameras, we will now get to see smartphones with an under-the-display camera. A few of Xiaomi’s under-the-display camera patents had leaked on the internet, last week. Now, Xiaomi officially launched a video where the company teases a phone having an under-the-display camera. Simultaneously , Oppo shared a similar teaser video of its phone, featuring an under-the-display camera.

However, these are only teasers, and we can expect the mobile companies to launch such a phone only by the end of 2019 or the next year. But again, Xiaomi and Oppo have certainly started working on under-the-display cameras in their smartphones.

Xiaomi President, Lin Bin also shared a similar teaser on the Chinese website Weibo which showcased a notchless smartphone. In addition, he even said that the company could possibly announce such a technology in future. While, the company claims that it has devised a technology that has enabled them to hide the camera under the display of the phone. This surely will put an end to the existing notched cameras and pop-up cameras on the smartphones.

Further, the teaser Oppo posted shows a similar technology wherein the upper middle area of the phone has the front camera. The primary display of the phone has a secondary display underneath, which covers the camera. The light sensors on both the screens work synchronously which helps hide or show the camera accordingly.

Meanwhile, Samsung, during its OLED forum last year, had made an announcement that the company is working on an In-display camera for its smartphones. However, we have not seen any advancement on the same till now.
