A big announcement from Reliance Jio on Wednesday that it has decided to start charging six paise a minute to customers calling on other mobile networks. The Mumbai-based operator claimed that the new voice charge would be at the prevailing Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC) rate, as decided by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), to enable inter-networking outgoing calls for telecom . Is also known as off-net voice call. The new change is designed specifically for voice calls being made to other operators, while all Jio-to-Jio calls, incoming calls and Jio-to-landline calls will be available at no additional charge.
Jio will provide following top-up vouchers for customers:
|IUC Top-Up Voucher Amount (Rs)||IUC Minutes (non-Jio mobiles)||Free Data Entitlement (GB)|
Jio, however, said these charges are not applicable on calls made by Jio users to other Jio phones and to landline phones and calls made using WhatsApp, FaceTime and other such platforms. Incoming calls from all networks will continue to be free.
