The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, Asus is back again with a brand new smartphone, the Asus Zenfone 6. This is the next flagship device coming from Asus. Indeed, it is a major upgrade from the Zenfone 5Z, which was released last year. And, not to forget, it was a major hit.
Asus officially launched the device globally on May 16 at a launch event held in Valencia. However, it is yet to be available for sales in India.
We look at some of the highlights of what Asus has to offer this time.
Firstly, starting off with the physical aspects of the phone. Asus gives you a 6.40-inch NanoEdge display which is almost bezel-less. It is a FHD+ IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect-ratio. However, we felt that Asus should have given an AMOLED display here, but nevertheless. Besides, it comes with a Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top. The device will be available in 2 color variants, which are the black and silver.
Hardware and Software
Now, coming to the performance part, the Asus Zenfone 6 sports the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. In addition, it comes with 6GB of RAM + 128GB of storage, at it’s lowest configuration. The device is running on Android v9.0 Pie with the custom ZenUI 6 skin on top. And, Asus claims that the latest ZenUI is much faster and smoother, designed to give you a near stock UI experience.
The camera unit of new Zenfone 6 is the major highlight of the device. This certainly is what defines the phone and differentiates itself from other smartphones in the market. The camera setup features a dual-camera setup at the rear. With a 48MP primary sensor (f/1.7 aperture), it has a 13MP wide angle lens having a 125-degree field-of-view. And, not to forget, the sensors here are the flagship Sony IMX586 sensors.
Well, here’s where the catch comes in. Although, it does not have a selfie camera, the rear camera setup is what works as a selfie shooter. Infact, it is the most unique and extraordinary design that we have seen till now. The rear camera literally flips over to enable you to take selfies in 48MP resolution and even wide angle selfies. This technology is truly amazing and gives you some unusual features as well. These include Free-angle shooting and 180-degree auto horizontal and vertical panorama.
Battery and Charging
Asus Zenfone 6 packs in a massive 5,000 mAh Li-Polymer battery to keep the device powered up. It is clearly the largest that any flagship device has to offer. In addition, it supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0 via a USB type-C port.
Other features include a fingerprint sensor at the rear, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Besides, it also has a smart key, which is a physical button that can be customized to toggle different functions, including Google assistant. It supports dual SIM with dual VoLTE at 4G connection. Additionally, you get an option to expand the storage to upto 200GB via a dedicated micro-SD card slot.
Pricing and Availability
There is no word as of now on the pricing of the smartphone in India. However, we can expect it to be available at a starting price of Rs 45,000 and going upto Rs 65,000. Again, these are the rumoured prices and we still have to wait for the official launch of the device in India. Considering these specifications, we can definitely say that it will be a tough rivalry for the recently launched OnePlus 7 device. The Zenfone 6 will be available to buy on Flipkart starting soon.
